Biography
Nikki Martin is emerging as one of Scotland’s most promising operatic talents, earning critical praise for her warm stage presence, vocal versatility, and natural charisma. Born and raised in Carluke, Glasgow, she graduated from the Opera School at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2023, under the tutelage of Lorna Anderson. Here, she performed the roles of Monica (The Medium), Cendrillon (Cendrillon), Ilia (Idomeneo) and was also the winner of the Ye Cronies Opera Award.
At RCS she performed scenes of Female Chorus (The Rape of Lucretia), Kitty (Dead Man Walking), Soeur Blanche (Dialogues des Carmélites), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), and Atalanta (Serse). Earlier in her education, Nikki graduated from Royal Northern College of Music, where she performed numerous roles including Hen (The Cunning Little Vixen), Adina (L’elisir d’amore), Nun (Suor Angelica) and Sprite (Cendrillon).
In 2025, she played Jou-Jou in Scottish Opera’s new production of The Merry Widow (which also toured to Opera Holland Park in the summer), as well as covering the role of Sally Hughes in A Matter of Misconduct during the same period. Nikki also came 2nd in the Aldeborough Festival New Voices Singing Competition, adjudicated by Sir Thomas Allen and Dame Jane Glover.
Future engagements include Lucia in The Rape of Lucretia with HGO London in April 2026 and covering Zoe in The Galloping Cure by Missy Mazzoli as part of the Edinburgh International Festival 2026.
As well as operatic work, Nikki is a keen recitalist and performs regularly throughout the UK with her duo partner Esther Ersfeld.
